There are 3 kinds of categories in E-Cinch:
- Marketplace categories
- Production categories
- Product categories and subcategories
Marketplace Categories
Marketplace categories appear in the form that your customers fill out at the very beginning of their quote-building process. If you offer many different kinds of packages, this category field can give your customers the ability to filter down to just the kinds of packages they're interested in.
Set this field by going to the package dashboard (click "Packages" in the top navigation bar), select the package you wish to edit, and add one or more "Categories" under the Package Information section.
Pro tip: if you only have 1-3 packages, you may not need to use this feature.
Production Categories
Production categories determine how your products and services will be organized on the customer's line item proposal and are also filter options in the merchant report once a proposal has been submitted.
To set production categories, go into the product or service you wish to assign, and select a production category from the drop-down. The options listed here are not customizable.
Product Categories and Subcategories
Product categories appear as bolded items on the left side when building a proposal. Product subcategories appear nested inside of their respective categories.
There are two ways to create categories:
The first way to create a category is to do so from within the package editor. Start by clicking "Packages" in the top navigation bar, then click the "edit" button for the package you wish to add the category to.
Select the product you wish to assign to a certain category or subcategory. Then, under "Product Details", you will see the Category/Subcategory section (pictured below). To create a new category from within the package editor, simply type it into the "New Category" field and click "Create".
To create a new subcategory, first make sure the "Category" drop down is correctly selected. Then type the name of the new subcategory into the "New Subcategory" field and click "Create".
The second way to create a product category/subcategory is to do so from within the category dashboard. Start by clicking on "Categories" in the top navigation bar.
To create a new category, click "Create New".
To create a new subcategory, first select the category you want this to be under (the row for that category will turn green once it's selected). Then click "Create New" under the Sub Categories column on the right side.
Now you can go into the package editor (click "Packages" from the top navigation bar), choose the product or service you want to edit, and under Product Details, select a category/subcategory from the drop down options.
To re-order categories:
If you want to change the order in which the categories appear in your packages, go to the category dashboard by clicking on "Categories" from the top navigation bar. Then, simply drag and drop the categories into the desired order.
You may see categories in this dashboard that don't appear in your packages. Categories/subcategories will not appear in any package until there is at least 1 product or service assigned to that category/subcategory.
To re-arrange the order of your subcategories, first select the category they are under, and then drag and drop the subcategories on the right side
To edit categories:
To change the name of a product category or subcategory, go to the category dashboard by clicking on "Categories" from the top navigation bar. Find the category or subcategory you wish to edit, click the "Edit" button, and give it a new name.
If you have the same category/subcategory in multiple packages, they will all be renamed.
To delete categories:
To delete a product category or subcategory, go to the category dashboard by clicking on "Categories" from the top navigation bar. Find the category or subcategory you wish to delete and click the "delete" button.
If you delete a category, all of its subcategories will also be deleted.
If you delete a category or subcategory that currently has products assigned to it, the products will remain in your package but they will be completely unassigned to a category and subcategory, meaning they won’t appear in the package on the front-end until they're recategorized.
